My name is Sebastian Garzon. I am drummer composer and educator.

I grew up in the Colon City and have had different learning opportunities throughout the years, starting in 2009 at the National Conservatory of Music, and the University of Panama.

In 2009, I went to my first Panama Jazz Festival and, from that moment, I fell in love with the freedom that the music offered and I wanted to learn it.

New England Conservatory ( NEC ) Boston Massachusetts, is the oldest independent school of music in United States, and its Jazz Program is one of the most reputable in the country.

NEC has an acceptance rate of 27.8 percent. In which only 3% percent is Hispanic or Latino musicians.

I auditioned during Jazz festival, and after four years trying to get into this school, I was accepted with a partial scholarship to study in the Jazz Performance Program starting on August 2016 .

This school has a jazz program since 1969 and it is based upon the combination of musical knowledge and personal expression that develops during private lessons between students and prominent artists, which are part of the faculty. It includes Ralph Alessi , Jerry Bergonzi , Dominque Eade Billy Hart, Dave Holland , Cecil McBee , Donny McCaslin , John McNeil , Jason Moran, Joe Morris and Miguel Zenon.

How we will use collected funds

Your contribution is essential to me to cover college expenses and accommodation,

during the 4 years of study at New England Conservatory.

Project history

In 2012, at the Danilo Perez Foundation, I began my formal jazz studies. I had many opportunities to learn and play with different local and international teachers such as Santi Dibriano, Osvaldo Ayala, Reggie Boyce, Luis Carlos Perez, Danilo Perez, Tom Patitucci, George Garzone among others.

When I got into the Danilo Perez Foundation, I began as a student and volunteer teaching in Panama City, Colon, and Santiago. I confirmed that music works as an agent of social change; today, I am the professor of music ensemble and drums for the Children's program.

The awards except the concert villa (until June 26th) will be delivered during July and early August.

Musi class: your selection between drums, percussion and composition. It is a 45 minute class that can be taken in person or through skype

Corporate or family workshop: a 45 minutes body percussion workshop that teaches how our body is our main instrument

Composition: will be delivered 1 to 2 months after an interview with the backer in which Sebastian will examine her personality to make an instrumental composition based on the person and her experience. A sheet and a downloadable recording leed be delivered.
