Antídoto is an eco-friendly poetry compilation illustrated by emerging national artists in a notebook/planner format. It contains 12 poems written by Laura Diaz Sanjur. Each poem inspired one of the illustrations created by 12 local artists through drawing, painting, photography, graphic design and collage. It is an “Antidote” that will reconnect you with your handwriting and that of your loved ones, relieving you from our collective addiction to screens and inspiring you to write, draw and even doodle (why not?). You can use it as a notebook, planner, journal or sketchbook. For this Costeame campaign, we have created an artisanal prototype, which only has the first few months of the year, so that you may have a sneak peek at how Antídoto will look. The campaign will help us gather the funds we require to cover the expenses related to finishing the complete version of the notebook/planner. We estimate that this finished version will be ready to print, thanks to your support, during December/January, which makes it an ideal holiday gift for your loved ones.

CHARACTERISTICS

Each page marking the beginning of a month will contain a poem and its corresponding illustration, as well as a QR code which will direct you to an animated video representation of both the illustration and the poem. Download any QR code scanning app from your device’s app center in order to be able to scan the QR code. The pages will be printed using eco-friendly ink on recycled paper. The dates will not be printed, instead there will be three empty boxes labeled “Day”, “Month”, and “Year” found on the top right corner of each page, to be filled in as desired. These three words will be handwritten by that month’s illustrating artist. When the notebook/planner is opened, the pages to the right will be ruled, while the ones to the left will be plain, allowing room to draw, design or write without the lines getting in the way. Most of the poems will be in Spanish, but some of the poems will be in English, with their corresponding translation. For each backer, we will plant a tree in collaboration with Fundación Arvita. They will assist us in selecting the areas for planting, in the process of growing the seeds into trees, and in the conservation of the trees after planting.

IMPACT

A daily escape from screens is much needed in our often hectic lifestyles. We are consumed by computers during our working hours, entertained by TV at home and distracted by our phones for most of our leisure time. Writing and drawing reduces stress, stimulates creativity, keeps us focused, strengthens our memory, keeps our minds active and maximizes our imagination. Antídoto’s first edition will provide a space to showcase emerging national talent from Chiriqui, Santiago, Penonome and Panama. Antídoto will not be an event or exhibition with temporary impact, but rather a collection product that will serve as a long term reference and source of inspiration. It will be a portable gallery for everyday use, designed for 2016 but due to its lack of printed dates, adaptable to any year. We are aware of the world around us, which is why we have decided to use eco-friendly ink and recycled paper. You will also be contributing, as we will plant a tree on behalf of each backer. We will literally harvest the fruits of our labor. Furthermore, every year we want to transcend styles and innovate while having a positive impact on the community, the environment and culture.

CAMPAIGN GOAL

We intend to print 300 editions of Antídoto, for which we must raise USD 7000, for expenses related to printing, creation, transportation, layouting, animation, legal counsel and literary consultations. You will be preordering Antídoto. With your contribution, you will receive rewards, become part of this innovative initiative and make it possible for a tree to be planted on your behalf. All backers and team members are invited to personally plant the trees.
